Coping: Sanora Gold
Pebble Tec: Majestic Plum

The spectacular view of this backyard to the ocean couldn't merit anything less than an infinity edge pool. With bar stools in the pool and a small drink bar, the homeowners can really enjoy a summer evening in their backyard.

47

Coping: Precast
Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile: Glass

Because of the size limitations of the yard, this pool is only 22' x 13'. But the homeowner still wanted to use it as an exercise pool. So the fastlane unit was the best fit. The difficult aspect was setting that unit at the perfect height so the automatic cover did not get caught on it when in operation. The sheer descents give this backyard a sense of tranquility as well as the darker toned tile and tan coping.

46

Pebble Tec: Aqua Blue/Sandy Beach
Coping: Sweetwater

This project was meant to have a very resort-like feel to it. The underwater island separates a 9' deep end for diving and other deep water activities. The idea was to give the island a Cancun appeal. On the other side of the pool is 3.5' to 5' deep with a reef step on one side and an infinity edge on the other. The spa also has a deep well so the homeowner could stand in and be up to his neck. The spa spillways into the pool with a natural rock waterscape.

45

Pebble Tec: Majestic Plum
Tile: Aztec 608
Coping and Veneer: 3 Rivers

The homeowners goal in this pool was to design something fun for the kids and still take advantage of their beautiful city view. So we did the slide for the fun part and then put a firepit up near their spa which was also raised and has a great view of Simi. We also were able to use a few stones from their hillside to mix in with the pool wall giving it a more natural look.

44

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Coping: Natural Grey Poured in place

This pool has two independent automatic covers that are hidden under the leading edges of the pool. The coping is poured-in-place concrete with a wood deck. As seen, the vaults for the cover are perfectly hidden with a blend of the two materials. Because the pool and the spa work off the same equipment, the equalization lines and the tracks to the cover had to be perfectly placed. Due to the cover vault and the demand for a perfectly symetric design, elevations on this pool had to be right on the mark. This pool is in the Moorpark heights and has a beautiful view of the Channel Islands on a clear day.

43

Pebble Tec: Irish Mist
Coping: Square Nose Colored Poured in Place Concrete
Tile: Ferrara Bone

With an elongated yard, this design and shape fits well bringing simplicity and elegance together. The victorian garden and subtle roman shape of the pool also give it a very classy look.

42

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Coping: Colored Square Nose Poured in Place Concrete
Tile: Mini Koyn Cobalt

Because there isn't any decking that extends out beyond the pool, this customer chose to raise it up with a brick veneer to match the them of the home. Maximizing the space of the pool, the spa is placed completely outside the pool with a spillway that first runs into a small trough before going into the pool. Water jets accent the pool from both sides

41

Pebble Tec: Moonlight Grey
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Poured in Place

Because the yard is small, this spa was designed to not overpower the yard. This spa gave the customer both a nice water feature to look at and a warm body of water to sit in and enjoy.

40

Pebble Tec: Moonlight Grey
Coping: Idaho Quartz Flagstone
Tile: Sierra Mountain Grafite

This customer wanted to keep the spa and the pool both covered. So both bodies of the water are at the same elevation. But to get the water feature, the pool was raised and an infinity edge was created.

39

3M Quartz: White on White
Coping: Square Nose Natural Grey Poured in Place
Tile: Mini Koyn Olive Blue

This customer did not want a lot of decking around the pool and with the elevations of the yard, it worked out nicely that way. An infinity edge was created as a wading pool which also acts as a beautiful water feature from the home. Copper Lip Sheer Descents also add to the appeal of the pool.

38

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile: Aztec 603
Rock Work: Sharp Cut Faux
Coping: Utah Sunrise

This pool was a tough one to get going. Because of the City codes, we had to get a soils report on this job. However, due to some soil failure in the past, red flags were thrown up in the report which delayed the whole project. Long and short of it, we weren't sure if we were going to be required to put in caissons in order for the pool to get permitted, which cost more than the pool was worth. But after some debate, it turned out caissons were not needed. Instead, we had to overexcavate and pour a secondary floor which was still more than expected, but not the worst case scenario. Once started, we got the job done in 10 weeks. It fit perfectly into their backyard. The sharp-cut stone matched well with other natural boulders throughout the yard.

37

Pebble Tec: Cool Blue
Tile: Cool Gems - Specialty Color
Coping: Square Nose Brushed Concrete

This pool started out as a freeform pool until the Homeowner decided it was far from what she wanted. "I just want a clean rectangle pool" she said. So between California Pools, the homeowner, and the landscaper, we came up with this design and it worked great for their backyard. After deciding the shape, the materials came next. After taking some tile out and searching high and low for something perfect for their taste, the homeowner decided on the glass tile shown here. It looks amazing!

36

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Sand Finished Concrete
Pool Wall: Stacked 3 Rivers

This pool had a pretty large yard to go with it. So we were able to design a 36x18 pool with a large reef step. We added bubblers to the reef step, 2 laminar jets that illuminate at night with fiberoptics, and 3-18" sheer descents on the back wall. The spa also has rolled beams to rest your head.

35

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile: Espana Cotto
Pool Wall and Spa Wall: Sweet Water
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Sand Finished Concrete

I met these homeowners at a Home Show and they already had plans completed and just wanted some bids. I think they already got 3-4 bids and then happened to run into me. I don't think they really even wanted to go through the hassles of getting another one. But they gave me the plan anyway. I'm sure glad they did because this was a gorgeous pool to build. I love the entire layout and the homeowner put a lot of time into making sure it was just perfect for he and his wife. It is simple but has all the elements of a perfect California Backyard.

34

Pebble Tec: Sandy Beach Entry with Tahoe Blue Deep end
Tile: Aztec 606
Coping: Sweetwater Flagstone
Rock Work: Topanga

Because the homeowner does a lot of work in Mexico, he was able to get some statues that we put around the yard. The dolphin in the deep end of the pool acts as a water feature and really adds a lot of uniqueness to their pool.

33

Pebble Tec: White Diamonds with a bag of blue mix
Tile: Saispabia
Coping and Veneer: Utah Sunrise

The big boulders surrounding the pool were hand picked from the rock yard which ended up adding a lot of beauty to the whole backyard ambiance.

32

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile:
Coping:

With not a lot of space to work with, this small pool and spa gives a backyard retreat for a couple who just wanted a peaceful ambiance.

31

Pebble Tec: Black Pearl
Tile:
Coping: Travertine

This is unique design that goes perfect with the shape of the backyard and how it sits with the house. The Grecian Column angular patio cover also ties the angles of the pool in very nicely.

30

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile:
Coping: 3 Rivers

Perched up in the hills of Simi Valley, this pool is perfect for kids and still has the ambience for a moonlit night.

29

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Coping: Idaho Quartz
Tile:

This is one of my favorite designs for someone who has a small backyard. This pool is only 4' deep in the deepest part. It also heats up quicker than a pool. So it can be used as a spa too. Hence the reason for the benches going around the whole pool.

28

Plaster: Conventional White
Tile: Avalon Avarust with Accent Rosettes
Coping: Bullnose Brick

Simplicity at it's best. I love this pool because it brings basic used brick and ties it nicely to a very modern home and pool.

27

Pebble Tec: Tropical Breeze
Tile: SVR Blue Ocean
Coping: 3 Rivers Flagstone
Spa Damwall: 3 Rivers Stacked Stone

This yard is very large. So we designed something that would take up the width of it and still leave a lot of the yard for grass. There is a bubbler on the reef step with a tiered damwall on the spa. The BBQ and firepit also help to make this yard a nice escape.

26

Pebble Tec: Moonlight Grey
Spa damwall: Utah Sunrise Stacked Stone
Wall Veneer: Noche Travertine with Rosette Accent Pieces
Coping: Custom Precast
Tile: Bellagio Beige

This yard had a small corner to work with. So it just made sense to create this design. The tiered damwall and sheer descent are great mixes of deep, low-pitched and shallow, high-picthed sounds.

25

Pebble Tec: Midnight Blue
Tile: Slate
Coping: Slate

The idea on this pool was to create a feng shui setting to match the interior of the home. The infinity edge falling onto a golf course/pond made it very achievable. Huge pine trees surround this property providing shade for 70% of the day. This makes the Pebble Tec look darker than it is.

24

Pebble Tec: Emerald Green
No Waterline Tile
Coping/Spa Damwall: Arizona Flagstone

Above the hills in Santa Barbara, this yard was small. The pool is intended to be a cool off area after soaking in the spa. The tarps above the pool are actually sails from the homeowner's boat.

23

Plaster: Conventional White
Tile: Aztec Cobalt
Coping: Colored Grecian Bullnose - Sand Finish
Pool Wall Veneer: Culture Stone
Spa Dam Wall: Stacked Blue Mountain Flagstone

The sunken diving board really stands out as the most creative feature on this pool. It subtly adds fun to a very classy look. Notice the reef step, and sheer descents as additional nice features.

22

Plaster: Conventional White
Tile: Borrego Deco Blue
Coping: Color Bullnose Concrete
Slide: Sculpted Faux
Tiered waterfall: Utah Sunrise
Rock Waterfall: Topenga

This pool has about every waterfeature you could ask for in a pool. The Laminar Jets spouting into the pool were an especially nice touch. This is a California Lifestyle pool.

21

Pebble Tec: Moonlight Grey
Tile: Bellagio Biege
Coping: Bullnose Concrete
Outside Veneer: Culture Stone

With a double infinity edge and water spouts, this pool has a more complex hydrology plan. However, the look was spectacular with the view of the city below. Also, the raised look gave it a uniqueness that you don't find on many pools.

20

Plaster: Conventional White
Coping: Brick
Tile: Royal Blue Solids

This pool was built as a freestanding structure because the natural slope drops away from the house with a vertical distance of about 6 feet. There were actually 3 different elevations to this property and the pool layout sits about 4 feet from a 10' drop into a city wash. I think the slide actually took the most vision because it is built up into the slope and then drops back down rather than starting from the top of the slope. The reason was because the homeowner did not want to obstruct any view from the house. While it took a little bit to get going due city requirements, it finished out beautifully.

19

Plaster: Conventional Grey
Tile: Aztec 608
Coping and Veneer: Durango Travertine

This backyard is meant for entertaining with three different style firepits throughout the yard, a 14' BBQ Island and plenty of deck space for a lot of people. The decks are three different style pavers with a Travertine Coping and a diagonal travertine veneer. Two lion head water features accent the pool wall. The pretty grecian shape of the pool really makes the backyard classical.

18

Plaster: 3M Quartz White
Coping: Colored Squarenose Brushed Concrete
Tile and Raised Wall: Aztec Cobalt

This design is a perfect illustration in showing that a geometric pool does not have to go into a square backyard. The property in this backyard has different angles that are far from square. But the pool fits in there very nicely. The precisely measured tile tiered damwall is also very appropriate for the shape.

17

Pebble Tec: Black Pearl
Tile: Aztec 606
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Sand Finish Concrete

The pool was meant to look tropical and yet still carry an Asian theme. Although the plant material was not in when this picture was taken, it made the backyard look like it was somewhere in the orient. We also built a small koi pond that simarlarly, was not landscaped when we finished. Both structures together help the backyard to carry a very peaceful ambiance.

16

Plaster: 3M Quartz French Grey
Coping: Colored Bullnose Concrete
Pool Wall: Culture Stone with a Cana - Cotta diagonal Tile
Waterline Tile: Espana Turquoise

This pool illustrates how to design a pool close to an existing patio cover.

15

Plaster: 3M Quartz Sandy Beach
Tile: Portofino Noce
Pool Wall Veneer and Coping: Utah Sunrise flagstone
Waterfall: Malibu

Coping: It's tough to see by this picture, but the backyard is very shallow from the house to the back property line. However, it is also very long with a huge hillside on the far end. The homeowners wanted a slide and waterfall, so we put those into the hillside. They also wanted the length to swim laps. This pool is 44' long. These homeowners are featured on California Pools testimonial DVD sharing their experiences about construction and California Pools.

14

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Waterline Tile: India Sukura
Pool Wall: Honey Suckle
Coping: Colored Grecian Bullnose Sand Finish Concrete

13

Pebble Tec: Irish Mist
Tile Work: Desert Rose, Dorata
Rock Work: Sculpted Faux

12

Pebble Tec: Majestic Plum
Coping and Pool Wall Veneer: 3 Rivers
Tile: Aztec 606

I love these properties up in the Moorpark estates because they are large lots with incredible views. From our website, the homeowners found the pool they liked. We changed it up a bit with the materials and added a few more bells and whistles to fit their tastes and this is the design we all evolved to.

11

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile: Verona 680
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Sand Finished Concrete

On the raised wall, there are 4 roman lion heads spitting out water. Because of the big yard, only a border of ashler slate stamped concrete went around the pool.

Plaster: 3M Quartz White
Tile: Mini Coyn Cobalt with white grout
Coping and Pool Wall: Durango Viejo Travertine

These European/Grecian theme did very well in this small backyard. Their plant choice was also well thought out to compliment their pool. Access on this pool was very limited with tight turns. But we were able to capture just what they wanted.

9

Plaster: 3M Quartz Blue on White
Tile: Aztec 603
Coping: Clasic Oak Flagstone

These homeowners had been in their home 20 years and finally decided to put in a pool. Most of their kids had gone off to college or were married and they wanted something for the grandkids. I love working with folks like this because there is a different emotion to the project. It was like working with Clark Griswald from the movie "Christmas Vacation" as he was just proud to get the pool for his great family. We all became good friends throughout the project and during my last visit (right before Christmas), they gave me an incredible loaf of banana bread. I don't know why, but that simple loaf of bread said a lot.

We actually had to demo an above-ground pool to get started. They wanted the turbo twister slide and a basketball hoop for fun and games.

8

Plaster: Convential French Grey
Tile and Pool Wall: Marmi Alabastro - Fujiwa
Coping: Grecian Bullnose Sand Finished Concrete

This backyard was small, had crazy property lines, existing decks, and a hillside to work with. So we designed a shape that just mimicked the canvas. This gave the homeowner the biggest pool possible without having to rip up existing decks. And as seen in this photo, the pool came out amazing.

7

Plaster: 3M Quartz Blue Splash
Tile: Aztec 601
Coping and Pool Wall: Classic Oak Arizona Flagstone

This backyard was a bit more complicated than your average yard because it had a lot of demo and not a lot of room to do it. It also had some tricky retaining walls. Then, after we started the dig, we hit an existing 6'x5'x20' footing that was installed before the home was built. It took 3 days of jack hammering to break it out. But after all was said and done, this pool came out fantastic. I think my favorite part about it are the plants. This pool goes to show how landscaping really can make a pool look amazing.

6

Pebble Tec: Tahoe Blue
Tile: Aztec 608
Coping and Pool Wall: Buckskin Arizona Flagstone

I call this shape a simple 8 because that is what it looks like. This shape is great for a smaller backyard and it was perfect for this homeowner who just wanted a place to get wet and didn't want to spend a fortune for it.

5

Plaster: 3M Quartz Blue on White
Tile: Marine Field Cobalt Blue
Coping and Pool Wall: Classic Oak Arizona Flagstone

Bless their hearts, these homeowners were amazing to work with. This backyard was full of obstacles. An electrical easement that took too long to pass through the city was just one of them. But they were patient from start to finish and their pool turned out awesome.

4

Pebble Tec: Carribean Blue
Rock Work: Wasatch Mountain Granite

Trying to blend perfectly with the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, this remodel project was built with Wasatch Mountain boulders on the waterfall and thoughout the steps and spa. The pool used to be just a standard flat kidney bean shape. We added a 2 large reef steps, a waterfall around the spa, a multi-tiered waterfall in the pool, and a planter wall. The boulders inside the pool had to be cut to form around the gunite which gave the appearance that the pool was formed around the boulders. We also brought in a custom landscaper to create multiple elevations with planters and give it that perfect mountainesqe feel. A nice mix of birch trees, pine, and low level Utah native plants spread throughout the yard. The firepit is formed 1/2 with a wall and 1/2 with a boulder. Like the pool, the idea was to make it seem like the firepit was built around this existing boulder. Big sheets of flagstone pavers make up a good portion of the decking area with a little stamped concrete.

3

Pebble Tec: Carribean Blue
Tile: Aztec 601
Coping and Pool Wall: Utah Sunrise

This homeowner wanted to push her pool into the hillside to reserve as much space as possible for the decking. Unfortunately, with the city codes, hillside pools require a lot of soils reporting that makes the process almost unbearable. Moreover, once we got the reports completed, the calculations were not copasetic with the structural engineers requirements and therefore, took more time and energy than any of us wanted. The spa has a tiered damwall with a 12" vertical drop at the end. The firepit snugs up to the hillside. The BBQ Island is custom built for their existing grill. The back wall is 36" high.

2

Pebble Tec: Black Pearl
Coping: Sanora Gold
Tile: Aztec 608
Rockwork: Topanga

This is one of those really elegant pools and it fits perfect with the personality and inside decor of the home. All of the materials go very well together giving the appearance of a tropical lagoon.

Pebble Tec: Sky Blue with Abalone Shell
Other details: All custom - Read Below

This is one of the most beautiful and complicated pools we've built. The Koi pond and pool actually look like they are connected with a bridge dividing the two. However, they are two separate structures. The cobblestone around the pool is 19th century European. In the pool, there is a negative edge made out of glass. The deep end is 11'. But that doesn't matter much when the pool is 65' long. There is still over 40' of shallow end to play water volleyball and basketball. The spa is all mosaic tile and runs completely independent of the pool. The reason is because it sits 4' below the pool. However, it looks like the pool still spills into spa because there is a 4' cantilever deck over a tiered damwall that divides the two structures. The pool interior is Sky Blue Pebble Sheen. I love that product even with a basic white look. It just looks so consistent and pretty.
